PADI Bubblemaker

Bubblemaker offers an easy and enjoyable introduction to the magic of underwater breathing.

It makes a perfect transition step for children. They can go from watching their parents or older siblings enjoying SCUBA diving, to learning how themselves. No worries though, any age is welcome to participate.

For children ages 8+, this course gets them below the surface and blowing bubbles in a fun filled 1 to 1 ½ hours. After watching an engaging 30 minute video called “PADI - Discover Scuba Diving,” a PADI certified instructor covers safety considerations in a comfortable way for children. The small class then puts the lessons into practice in water less than 6 feet deep. Safety is the priority.

Students learn how to swim with fins, use a mask, and take their first breaths underwater.

Once the class starts “blowing bubbles” with ease, the instructor will carefully lead them through cool tricks to keep their excitement and interest up. They could be playing frisbee, swimming like a dolphin, or learning to swim upside down while down under!

Aside from great memories, each participant gets a prize to mark their new skills: a sharp looking PADI certificate.

The dive center provides all the necessary gear: mask, snorkel fins, wet-suit if required, tank, weights, vest, and regulator.

No special swimming skills are required. Anyone in good health, without a cold or ear infection, is welcome to sign up today!

PADI Discover Sucba Diver

DSD typically takes a day, involves some instruction and some diving.

PADI Open Water Certification

PADI's Open Water Certification unlocks an entire new world of exotic ocean adventures. Students from the Discover SCUBA Diving class will already have some of the skills for this course. Anyone in good health over the 10 years of age is eligible.

Advanced PADI certified instructors lead students through guides and videos explaining terms and concepts about the technical aspects of ocean diving. Following class room instruction, the students put the theory into practice with relevant pool dives. Skills build on each other. Eventually students learn about going as far as 130 feet under the surface, pre-dive safety practices, equipment check outs, and how to handle most diving challenges.

Students move through at least five pool dives and four local dives on their way to passing the certification test. The instructors role is to get students safely through the lessons until they are confident enough for exciting open ocean diving. Though fun and focused on making students comfortable underwater, this is a serious course that conveys and verifies defined skills on those that pass. Not everyone attains the level of competence required for safe open water diving. For this reason, gaining the PADI Open Water Certification is a cause for pride.

A big part of SCUBA revolves around equipment. Students learn about selecting masks, snorkels, fins, dive computers, dive gauges, wet suits, buoyancy vests, tanks, regulators and weight belts. The dive shop can rent all of the necessary gear. Instructors can also assist students with buying gear that improves their diving enjoyment and safety.

Class length varies by season and size. It can take as little as 2 intense days, or as long as 8 weeks depending on how many hours per day students can devote, along with access to suitable dive sites.

Gaining experience as an Open Water Certified diver often leads to a desire for more skills. Becoming an Advanced Open Water diver gives more knowledge and skills for enjoying SCUBA in a wider variety of more challenging conditions.

PADI - Advanced Open Water Certification

If PADI Open Water certification is like a standard driving license, then the Advanced Open Water (AOW) certification is sort of an off-road license. At a minimum, students gain underwater navigation skills, learn about deep water conditions, get introduced to more advanced dive computers and functions, plus learn several specialty skills of their choosing.

Specialties include photography, wreck diving, using underwater scooters, optimized buoyancy, and more. A total of 16 specialty skills to sample makes this a seriously exciting course!

One of the highlights for AOW students involves exploring the mysterious and murky world of night diving. Feel like a special forces commando while diving with only moonlight as your guide on the surface. Below the surface, and aided by submersible high intensity flashlights, the phosphorescent sea creatures give student's eyes a treat they have to see to believe!

Anyone who completes the Open Water certification (or equivalent from another organization) and is at least 15 years old, can sign up. Expect 5 dives with underwater navigation, deeper activities from 18-30 meters / 60-100 feet, plus 3 specialty introduction dives.

Despite the name, divers just out of the Open Water course enter the Advanced program routinely because it gives them more skills while earning hours for their log book.

There are both home study and in class books explaining theory, safety issues, and new skill exercises.

For the gear lovers, this course will definitely fit the bill. Everything from the basic scuba gear, to underwater compass, wreck diving tools, underwater photography equipment, DPV's (underwater scooters), dive lights, dry suits (for possible cold water diving), dive flags/floats or other optional equipment may be used. The dive center will have rentals available for each specialty.

Students with the Advanced Open Water certification gain confidence in their ability to navigate underwater, safely dive a wider variety of conditions, and go places they would have been hesitant to with only Open Water skills.

A great course for taking the diving excitement even farther..sign up today!

PADI - Rescue Diver

Adding the Rescue Diver certification shows the ability to overcome challenges and assist other divers in distress. This is one of the more intense courses available for anyone who has completed either the Adventure Diver or Advanced Diver Certification (or equivalent from another organization). A student must also have a current (less than 2 years old) First aid and CPR course certification.

PADI Rescue Diver crewpaks include materials needed for the course, such as pocket masks, instruction book and DVD. Specially trained PADI instructors guide students through advanced techniques for self-rescue, assessing and managing stress in other divers, emergency response and equipment issues, steps for rescuing divers, and assisting unresponsive divers.

Students will need basic scuba gear with a dive computer and accessories. All items will be available for rental or purchase at the dive center.

Once through the rigors of becoming a Rescue Diver, a new challenge awaits. Adding the Emergency Oxygen Provider Course certification elevates a student’s capabilities for assisting other divers.

These three courses - First aid and CPR, Rescue Diver, and Emergency Oxygen Provider - can turn a diver into the person who can potentially save another person's life. Sign up today and add a critical skill set to your diving repertoire.

PADI - Divemaster

When you know you love diving, and might want to make a living teaching the exciting world of scuba, then becoming a PADI Divemaster can make your dreams happen. The requirements include:

• Minimum age of 18

• PADI Advanced Open Water certified

• PADI Rescue Diver certified

• Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care certified

• Have at least 40 dives prior to the course, with a total of 60 needed for certification

Students are encouraged to have dive watches, a dive compass, and diving knives.

The course covers three general phases over a period of 8 weeks, but can be condensed with more intense programs into 2 weeks or less. Classroom, independent study, and diving sessions work on water skills, stamina, organization, problem solving, and teaching methods for scuba techniques. Often students intern with other instructors for honing the lessons.

Achieving Divemaster certification demonstrates a high level of skill, confidence, and a commitment to becoming a leader or instructor for scuba diving with others. The certification confers a host of privileges all aimed at helping teach newer divers the safe practice of diving. Divemasters act as assistants to full instructors for any PADI diver course, and can lead courses up to the Open Water Diver Course.

Recommended courses after Divemaster include preparations for becoming a full PADI Instructor. Specialty courses that add to diving skills in more stressful environments such as Search and Recovery, Emergency First Response Instructor, and Deep Diver are all highly recommended.

Without a lot of theory, classroom time, or stress, students can be blowing bubbles beneath the surface and enjoying their first scuba experience. This session can also be a good way to keep children occupied with a specially trained scuba instructor teaching them scuba basics while their parents or siblings are out diving deep!

SSI Open Water

SSI Open Water is a certification recognized world wide and allows you to dive in the most common environments with a dive buddy. Requirements for entering the Open Water course include:

SSI Specialty Diver

There are 18 specialty diver course options available for those who possess an Open Water certification from SSI or equivalent organization. Some of the more popular specialty courses are Diver Stress and Rescue, Nitrox Diving, Deep Diving, Ecological Diving, Search and Recovery, Dry Suit Diving - great for colder climates, Digital Underwater Photography, Motion Picture Diving, and for the more adventurous - Shark Diving and Wreck Diving.

Learning the specific techniques for each specialty prepares divers for handling a wider variety of undersea challenges. Each specialty course covers the theory, safety considerations, equipment, and practical skills required for confidently applying a new underwater skill.

By the time most divers are going through the specialty ratings, they have their own gear. If that is not the case, all the basic scuba gear is available for rental. Gear for most specialties can be rented as well.

Some of the courses require a valid CPR & First Aid certificate prior to enrollment and are only for ages 12 and up.

Coursework involves reviewing the manual and DVD's for each specialty, developing a dive plan, covering the water skills, then applying them during actual diving under real conditions.

Specialty courses range from a 1 to 3 days. To gain the SSI Specialty Diver certification, divers must complete 2 specialty courses and at least 12 dives. This requirement gives the Specialty Diver a higher rating at this intermediate level than any other scuba certification.

There are so many diving specialties to choose from, an Open Water certified diver can continue learning multiple skills for adding to their scuba tool kit for months. One quick way of determining which specialties are more appealing for a particular diver, is enrolling in the Advanced Open Water Diver program.

USD0.00

SSI Advanced Open Water Diver

• Navigation

• Deep Diving

• Enriched Air Nitrox

• Boat Diving

• Perfect Buoyancy

• Search and Recovery

Divers pursuing this rating are encouraged to invest in their own equipment for improved familiarity, leading to improved safety. However, students can choose to rent the basic scuba gear required, as well as specific gear for each specialty.

24 dives are required to obtain the coveted SSI Advanced Open Water rating, far above requirements from any other rating agency. Course length varies from 1-3 days.

The same age and physical requirements for Open Water apply here.

Age requirement is 12 years or older.

Deep Diving, Cavern Diving, and Ice Diving are not available to Junior Divers.

This in depth Advanced Open Water course prepares divers for making the challenging leap into Master Diver status. The other option after this rating, is to take more of the specialty courses to gain additional experience and a rating for each specialty.

USD0.00

SSI Master Diver

Master Diver certification works like the Advanced Open Water, with additional requirements of completing 5 specialty courses, a total of 50 dives, and have completed the Diver Stress and Rescue rating. This is an elite rating that assures confident diving in almost every type of environment or condition. It is a strong preparatory step for eventually becoming an SSI rated Instructor.

The same 18 possible specialties available to the Advanced Open Water diver are also available for the Master Diver:

• Navigation

• Deep Diving

• Enriched Air Nitrox

• Perfect Buoyancy

• Search and Recovery

• Divers going for the Master Diver rating are expected to have all of their own gear. Specialty diving gear can be rented from the dive shop.

• Requirements included Advanced certification from SSI or equivalent.

• 12 years or older

• Medical Approval signed from a physician within 12 months.

Coursework and dives require from 3-5 days.

SSI Dive Guide

This is the starting level for professional diving under SSI. With this rating, you can get paid to lead and guide certified divers. The great responsibility of this rating means that it is a challenging rating to achieve. First, the instructors will get student's dive skills to exemplary levels. They must set the standard. Second, the class will train divers how to plan, organize, and lead dives with an emphasis on safety. Third, all the diving and teaching skills developed are put to the test for insuring the potential Dive Guide can handle the pressures of diving while teaching.

A full range of diving specialties must be mastered by prospective Dive Guides so they can be the confident leader of a diving group. Wreck diving, nigh diving, deep diving, etc. are all covered from preparation, planning, through boat check in. Each student must have rescue skills, dive leadership skills, searching and navigation skills.

All students will be expected to have their own scuba gear for this level. Additional gear is available for purchase in the dive center as needed.

Tests include:

• 700 meter snorkel swim in under 20 minutes

• Underwater swim of 25 meters or more

• 15 minutes of water treading

USD0.00

SSI Dive Master

SSI Divemasters can lead certified divers, like a Dive Guide, but can also assist diving instructors with courses. This is a key step prior to full instructor status.

Most Dive Guide rated students immediately sign up for the Divemaster course to keep the momentum.

One of the key requirements for Divemaster is The Science of Diving module. This critical, detail filled instruction brings a more technical and thorough understanding of diving effects. With the additional knowledge and understanding, the Divemaster is able to impart more information to students as well as lead safer dives.

Students must have logged 60 dives to attain a Divemaster rating.

Part of the training is simply diving with top flight instructors and learning from the best.

Requirements include:

• 18 years and up

• Hold a license to administer oxygen

• Be a certified Stress and Rescue Diver

• At least the specialties ratings for Deep, Nitrox and Navigation, though going through Master Diver is recommended.

USD0.00

SSI Instructor

SSI is the fastest growing scuba Instructor agency in the world. With a 40% increase in 2012 alone, demand for SSI Instructors is growing and this course prepares experienced divers to become highly regarded professional dive instructors.

The full course is called the Instructor Training Course, or ITC. Everything a scuba professional needs including the skills, knowledge, techniques, and systems for diving, instructing, and managing operations is here.

ITC covers topics such as the legalities of diving operations, imparting confidence in students not simply competence, how to control large dive groups, techniques for inspiring students to love diving not simply know how to dive, and how to teach courses in detail.

Additional coursework is included for improving teaching styles and adhering to SSI standards.

Students are required to demonstrate teaching skills, classroom management, dive management, diving skills, and rescue capabilities.

Sample requirements:

• 4 academic presentations

• 3 pool teaching presentations

• 3 open water presentations

• All requirements for passing Dive Guide and Divemaster must be met.

• Must be 18 years or older and certified as an SSI Dive Control Specialist.

• It takes approximately 2 weeks for completing the Instructor course work and 75 dives logged. By this level, students must have their own scuba equipment. If there are a few specialty items needed, the dive center will make arrangements for rentals.

Instructor rated SSI professionals can teach most of the SSI courses with the possible exception of some specialty ones. Specialty courses require individual teaching certifications.

Wicked Diving at the Similan Islands and Khao Lak

Khao Lak8 Mar 2017 - 11 Mar 2017 with Wicked Diving

We booked our first livaboard and would recommend this option to anyone planning a visit. Never done one before and were sceptical. People and staff were great and you had the option to have 'me' time if desired.

We dived with Wicked, having been let down by Similan Divers -avoid.

Wicked are well run and safety conscious ensuring both you and they are free from risk. This made us completely at ease as in good hands.

Boat journey is about 5 hours. Our cabin was bunk bed and had aircon and a fan. This was perfectly comfortable for sleeping during our 4 day 3 night trip. The boats are simple and have all the necessary amenities. There are eco toilets and showers.Wicked provide reduced chemical shampoo and shower gel to limit the effect on the wildlife. The lower deck is where the tanks are held and filled; cabins and showers/ toilets are here too.

Next level up is the briefing area with tables and where meals are also had.

Food is excellent and varied. The fridge is stocked with beers and soft drinks; fruit, water and juice are FOC.You can bring your own drinks and food as required. The top deck is a sun and shade area with bean bags to lounge and chill on.Diving is great; visibility 30 metres and water 30 deg. Typically first dive about 7; night dive can be sunset or total darkness depending upon your comfort level.Off the boat, we did a local dive. Boonsung is a must! A wreck in 3 pieces; home to a whole host of nursery age fish in outrageously large volumes! Loved seeing the tiny barracuda in more numbers than I could count!! At one point I was in the middle of a ball of fish! You won't struggle to find lion fish and stone fish.Giant tame puffer fish glide alongside you. Great opportunities to see nudibranches that you might not ordinarily see - very flamboyant! Diving was great and Wicked as a company are excellent. It's not 5 star accommodation, so if that is what you need, search elsewhere, the service, safety, food, atmosphere and attention to detail are!
