Located in the northern part of Queensland Australia, Townsville is a picturesque seaside town that, due to a quirk in its geographical location, boasts a tropical savannah climate. Because Townsville lies along a coastline that turns east/west in contrast to the rest of the Sunshine Coast, this area enjoys a cooler, dryer climate than the rest of this tropical region.Book A Dive Center Online
Townsville serves as a jumping off point for the central Great Barrier reef. With multiple operations offering day trips and liveaboards, divers of all levels can find the perfect outing to one of the Seven Wonders of the World. With warm waters, crystal clear visibility and an abundance of the most exotic tropical marine life, the Great Barrier reef is every scuba diver’s mecca as well as a snorkeler’s paradise. Closer to shore, Townsville is home to the famous 107 meter long Yongala shipwreck lying in waters from 15 to 30 meters deep. A mere eight kilometres across Cleveland Bay rises Magnetic Island where the calm waters and sheltered sandy beaches have earned this spot recognition as “Australia’s Place to Learn to Dive”.

We're off to Australia in November and have a couple of days planned for Townsville to see the Yongala wreck & Great Barrier Reef. We've been told that the weather can be quite unpredictable at the wreck and trips can be cancelled at short notice. If we miss out because of bad weather we'd receive a full refund, but we wont be in town long enough to get a second chance to go out.
obviously its "unpredictable", but does any one know where I can find a report of how often the yongala was unavailable last year? Particularly November and December.
