Once you arrive in Cienfuegos you will understand why it is called Cuba’s “Pearl of the South” for the sheer beauty of its bay. To protect this port from pirates and marauders the Spaniards erected the fort of Nuestra Señora de los Angeles de Jagua directly in the bay’s entrance.
This city also possesses a great deal of French influence throughout its architecture and nationally recognized historic centre. Forty kilometres down the southern coast you will find Trinidad, declared a world cultural heritage centre by UNESCO for its unique colonial architecture. This sleepy little fishing village is a sightseer’s paradise for churches and cobbled squares that can only be explored on foot.
Both towns offer reef, wall and wreck dive sites just off their respective coasts. Divers will enjoy crystal clear, warm waters year round in a largely untouched region of the world. All sites are covered with corals, giant sponges, sea fans and other reef fauna. Marine life includes Goliath groupers, reef sharks, morays, sting rays, blue tang and many, many others. With a number of boats making daily trips you will be able to easily enjoy this regions natural beauty.
