Mataró is only 20 minutes from Barcelona, with a nice big beach and nice old commercial downtown, especially in La Riera, and Barcelona streeet.

You can also go for a quiet walk in Mataró’s downtown, which also is city’s commercial center.

Mataró is famous-* for its “Barres de Mataró”. Barres de Mataró are different rock bars parallel to the coast (NE/SW), which offers more than 20 dive sites at different depths (8 meters to 33 meters). These rock bars are ancient coast lines, and hosts a big variety of Mediterranean Sealive like Eagle Rays, Octopuses, Moray Eels, Conger Eels, Scorpion Fishes, Nudibranches, Groupers, Lobsters, Crabs, Cuttleflishes, etc.

Climate

Mediterranean weather is usually sunny all year around, mainly in spring, summer and autum.

Water temperature is around 20-23º C from July to October, 17-20º C May, June & December, 12-17º C January to April.

On Season is from May to November.

Les Santes (8-12m) - Statue of Mataró’s virgins (Santa Juliana and Santa Semproniana), big anchor and sealife like octopuses, cuttlefishes, nudibranches, etc.

La Matella (8-15m)  Can see Octopuses, cuttlefishes, nudibranches, moray eels, etc.

Ancaman (15m)  Octopuses, cuttlefishes, nudibranches, moray eels, conger eels, etc.

Torre Ferrera (15-17m)  Octopuses, cuttlefishes, nudibranches, moray eels, eagle rays, lobsters, tuna, etc.

Fish! Credit

El Pont del Petroli (0-12m) - Beach dive site where you can dive under an old bridge that was used to download petrol from petrol boats. Can see Octopuses, cuttlefishes, plain fishes, seahorses.

How to Get there

Mataró is a small town only 20 minutes from  Barcelona.

You can arrive to Mataró from Barcelona by train or bus (30 mins).

Where to Eat & Drink

Mataró Port and beach are very close to diving center, with lots of Bars and Restaurants. If you prefer eating seafood and catalan dishes like tapes, crema catalana, pa amb tomaquet, etc. a bar/ restaurant called 'Chiringuitos' is the place for you.
