The Diving

If you’re looking to dive in San Diego Bay area there is great diving available but it's challenging with water that's pretty cold, which on the other hand makes underneath the surface lush and beautiful. The waters off the coast of San Francisco offer you approximately 70 miles of diveable coastline, where you will need at least a wetsuit if not a comfortable dry suit. You'll find the diving rough with currents and not much visibility which at best can be anywhere from 10 to 20 feet on a good day. And keep in mind; the San Francisco Coast is a very “Sharky”. The majority of diving Bell and San Francisco is done from the shore, and we'll take a look at some of the better sites.

Ocean Cove is a good beginner's guide site, not very challenging, but fun for all especially if you enjoy kelp forests and visiting with a few rockfish. You should really get some good bottom time because the maximum death inside the cove itself is approximately 25 feet (7 m).

USAL Beach is another good dive site for sure or from about four and intermediate diver. It's located at the north side of the beach and the bottom is pretty rocky, and currents can become an issue. It may be close during the winter months because of the rough seas.

Another good place to gear up and walking on a sandy beach is the Monterey State Beach we can park in a parking lot, have access to restrooms and showers and even have a picnic after dive. During the summer months you might want to dive this site on weekdays because weekends are ridiculous. Although it's not advertise that much there to wreck some water approximately 400 yards out that sitting in approximately 30 feet of water one of the Rex is an old half track and the other is a yacht. Keep an eye out for the current because it can be strong. It's easy to find the yacht because there's actually a buoy above it Arabic and filed down to it. Keep an eye out because of our flounder and octopus out there.

The Coral Street Beach in Monterey is a challenging beach dive but can be a lot of fun if you keep your head about you. You be diving in quite a bit of help especially during August and September and is highly advisable to dive while the dive shops or a buddy that has experience diving in the cold and the kelp and might know the area. There's good options for photography including seals and fish schools of smaller fish and even if you're lucky whales. You might also find an otter or two and possibly some monkey face feels. You need to be careful on this dive especially if you decide to dive the site as many do at night. Having someone keep an eye out on sure is a good idea as well as running a real line out to find you’re way back in. It's a good intermediate dive during the day but you should have plenty of guys under your belt to dive this site after dark.

The Breakwater Cove is another good site and a very popular dive site located in Monterey. This is a great site for beginning divers and if you there on weekends you'll probably come across some dive instructors in their classes. It's a fairly easy beach entrance into the reef but keep in mind the visibility can vary quite a bit once you're in front of the cannery you can locate some pipes run until water is pretty good to follow those out. There's tons of underwater life here including your standard marine creatures, including halibut, sea lions and octopus. It's good diving between 30 to 40 feet.
