Book A Diving Trip OnlineRelatively unknown and not yet on most divers radar, this little volcanic island, Pulah Weh has great visability and a kalidescope of marine life
Book A Dive Center OnlineThe most Northern island in Indonesia, Pulau Weh is a small active volcanic island that was once part of the Sumatran mainland, but became separated during the last volcanic eruption more than a million years ago. A volcanic cone can be found in the Jungle and also underwater fumaroles can be found at many points off the coast, some which are suitable for diving.
The island is quite remote and not very touristic so although it is great for nature lovers on land and underwater its doesn’t have many other activities or nightlife.
The island offers a range of different diving, there are wrecks, drift dives in the channel, drop offs and a spectacular array of different marine life and healthy corals. In its waters its possible to spot killer whales, Mola Molas, Turtles, Manta rays, Whale sharks and an array of different shark species including the rare Megamouth Shark!
To protect this wonderful reef life and corals the government has created a wildlife protection area of approx 60 sq km around the island, this helps maintain the beauty and the marine life of the reef.
Compared to the rest of the Sumatran islands, Pulah Weh does not get affects by the run off from rivers, and so has great visability. The diving is year round, but the sites are less affected by the wind and fewer chances of rain during the months of October to April with a constant water temperature of 28-29C.
Off the beaten track, this island offers uncrowded spectacular diving and snorkelling and is a nature lovers paradise.
