London to Kas

I arrived in Kas early Friday morning after a long an interesting trip! I had flown Easyjet from Gatwick to Antalya and had the usual, expected budget airline experience. When i went to check in my bag was 4kg over weight and they wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount per kilo to check it in! So as there was no way on earth i was paying, i took my BCD out and that made it 0.5kg under. I was surprised as i am certain my BCD weighs more like 2kg than 4.5kg but the problem was sorted, or so i thought! Budget airlines seem to have an obsession about only one bag of hand luggage, so as my BCD was way too big to fit in my hand luggage they tried to tell me i couldn’t take it on with me as i now had two items. So i put it on and argued that it was clothing and a jacket and not another bag, they weren’t too happy but accepted that and so i spent 2 hours carrying the BCD around the airport. It’s so stupid as it all went on the plane, just the location was different and it made it way more awkward for me.
The flight wasn’t too bad, a little uncomfortable and with no entertainment, but i was fine with my iPod and had prepared my own food so didn’t have to eat there ridiculously priced sandwiches.
Once in Kas i am staying with my friend Fezz. He’s a diving instructor who i met in the Perhentians after i completed my Divemaster and now he’s back in Turkey running Bougainville Diving. He had sent the minibus to pick me up and in the dark it was a 3 ½ hour journey through a lot of windy hills. This makes it quite an effort and long journey to reach Kas, but once you are there it’s definitely worth it. It’s a lovely small town surrounded by hills on one side and the blue ocean on the other. The long journey means that Kas has not been polluted by big resorts and although it’s a popular Turkish holiday destination it doesn’t feel that touristy, maybe because i am one of the very few English people here.
I had my first dive this morning out at Three Rocks and although it was great being back in the water i was a little congested. I had no problems equalising but had quite a bit of sinus pain coming back up. So i decided to sit out the rest of the days diving and sunbathe instead. So fingers crossed my cold has cleared up a bit by tomorrow morning and I can get diving!
