Salt Cay is one of the eight islands of Turks and Caicos archipelago. Located 575 miles south of Miami and 39 miles southeast of the Bahamas, Salt Cay is a tiny, flat, triangular island measuring about 3.2 km (two miles) a side . It was once home to several hundred people, all supported by the salt industry. Its current population is estimated at less than 200.
Snorkeling and SCUBA diving. Pristine coral reefs and unspoiled waters surround the island. Diving is just a 5 minute boat ride offshore to the 7,000 foot vertical wall. Whale sharks are known to cruise the waters of the Turks Islands Passage along the wall, relentlessly enchanting divers. Local Rodale's Scuba Diving Magazine has rated Salt Cay in the top 100 in the world as 'best wall diving.
