The diving in Lanzarote is set in a very spectacular environment. The dramatic volcanic landscape on the surface continues underwater with lava flows and many caves and caverns to explore.

The volcanic eco system sustains a great concentration of life ranging from rays and angel sharks to pretty soft coral, octopus and plenty of reef fish. The conditions are perfect for all levels of experience, from Bubblemakers to Tech Divers. Lots of the dive centres on the island cater for both so for those with children whilst you are off on an exciting deep dive you can leave your kids practising in safe hands for the time when they are old enough to join you! As well as plentiful marine life, caves, lava flows Lanzarote diving also offers you some excellent wrecks.

The easternmost island of the Canary Islands, the volcanic island of Lanzarote is a great tourist spot for diving and much more. The pleasant climate and conditions ensure year round excellent diving with an abundance of marine life set amongst a spectacular volcanic landscape. Its a great spot for families and those travelling with non divers as most diving is close to the shore and can be undertaken in a morning or a day. There is also plenty of land based activities to occupy kids, non divers and divers whilst on the surface. There are beautiful black sand beaches and many geological sites to visit including the volcanoes where you can still see parts of the ground steaming and bubbling!

Life on Lava Blocks

Lanzarote10 Sep 2012 - 17 Sep 2012 with North Diving Lanzarote

Arrieta is a little village on the north shore of Lanzarote. No large hotels or loud disco music but small appartments and local food in small restaurants. Hiring a car is rather cheap and really a good idea.

The diving takes place from the shore and really good soles on the boots or rockboots are necessary on the slippery wet rocks.

I flooded my camera on the first dive :-( but I rember seeing lots of octopi, rays, pufferfish, chromis, parrotfish and nudibranchs on my dives that were all very pleasant though getting in and out of the water was sometimes challenging!

And always remember: it is the Atlantic you are diving so conditions can be rough. The water is nice and warm all year round because of the Golf Stream.

I will be back
